Ontario Place: past, present and in/future.

A video of the west island as it is today, nostalgia, and a look back to artists imagining the future of this large public space.

Many of us who grew up here in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Ontario for that matter have some sort of childhood memory, fuzzy as it may be, of visiting the west island of Ontario Place.

Undoubtedly it can be heartbreaking to see the public space in its current state between its past and future. However since the very beginning this place has always been a representation of both the past and the future!

As mentioned in the last post one of the stand out projects I got to document ten years ago in 2016, was in/future Presented by Art Spin in partnership with Small World Music. The ten day arts festival was:

the first time the West Island of Ontario Place had been animated since its closure in 2012, with artists and partners responding to the past and future of the site to create responsive programming that was deeply rooted in this unique place.

Below are just a small selection of my photographs from in/future:

What does the future hold for the west island of Ontario Place? We’ll have to wait and see.
